moving day

Last night I fixed Lauras computer. She spilled wine on the keyboard and her printer was missing the cable. I just plugged in an old cable and keyboard I had lying around and WHOA LA I am amazing. Not. I suck. I am a big faking phoney, I know nothing about computers, I cant even type. My cat is typing this as I dictate to him from under a blanket. My cats amazing since I grew him thumbs.

This morning I had to give Jen a ride to the bus station at 5:45am this morning so she could take a bus to Logan Airport in Boston so she could take a plane to Seattle to see her ex-boyfriend.

Ive stopped asking questions a while ago.

So Im tired. Sou me. Damnit Taylor (thats the cats name, err MY NAME *meow*) you spelled Sue wrong.

Yesterday was the first day of spring, spring means the college students will be leaving soon. Thats bitter sweet for me. I love them I hate them those annoying stuck up preppy bastards who can be real cute and nice and fun. Damn them.

A poem (coincidentally) that Ive pulled out and am reworking:

It's Moving Day
& the East Side works third shift

She gardens in winter - Coming alive at dusk she grows as the weather
grows colder
the East Side hustles with College Students and then dreams with the summer sublets - summer browsers - summer jobs
She dreams after her students leave...

The East Side is Yang before Yin - still balanced - still spinning
& this weekend the sun is shining
it's spring time 90 degrees - but she's wearing black
she works third shift but didn't go to work today
this morning, her rooms are packed
& the East Side is TIRED

Face a yellow hue on pale white skin
she sits in her kitchen window looking at her apartment dying
the last box has been carried off
cigarette ashes vacuumed from the carpet
her boot prints washed from the floor
& as she leaves - all at once
all of the empty rooms - of every apartment - of all the houses - of every street - echo her door closing - the clack of the dead bolt locking
& all at once 10,000 keys scrape out of key holes
slide quick under their doors
& 5,000 last breaths hold - listening to her boot steps walking down narrow stairs & then release
as she meets outside pick ups - rust heaps - family cars
a beat up UHAUL sinking into the tar
hundreds of shiny yellow Ryder trucks brimming with furniture - the detritus of living - dirty laundry & movers taking a nap
& as she walks away
all the tailgates shut
car doors slam
every moving van latches their door
as she walks away
Everyone rolls away & the sidewalk sighs
arches it's back - moans a morning groan - rises a quarter inch
& settles back for summer
as she settles at a table
she sits in an empty cafe
knowing it will be like this all day she doesn't feel like sleeping
not yet
the knot in her neck still aches
the ache in her bones still strong
she's been up all night
but she's enjoying the smiles on the faces of businessmen finding parking closer to work
& so she sits in the sunlight
face a yellow hue on pale white skin - looking out the cafe window
feeling lighter
seeing greener
not even minding a few pigeons
tickled by sparrows
she knows she should go but she sits & watches the street grow younger
smells the canal grow stronger
& only rises as she hears the hum of air conditioners - click on
the whirl of window fans - click on
the night time street lights - click on
& begins to walk to her new home
hearing the chanting summer against the click of her own boots - on red brick side walk
hearing the chanting summer - listening until she reaches her door
she fumbles with a shiny new key
chains the door behind her
births life into the empty rooms - just by being there
the right box finds her
unpacks itself
as she lays down on freshly washed sheets
clicks off the light
sets her alarm for September
closes winter blue eyes
whispers "Finally... they're gone..."
while thousands of College Students
can't help
but begin
to dream
of falling
autumn
leaves
