 Headlines

Supreme Court bars medical marijuana - Unanimous decision by high court. In a major victory for federal government, justices rule no medical necessity exception to federal drug laws.

Looks like President Clinton nominated the wrong Ginsberg to the bench. Did you know that marijuana was outlawed because it was thought that African Americans were being driven into reefer madness and going around raping white women - all from smoking this stuff that gives you the munchies, makes you want to nap, and say things such as "duuuuude, I'm so mellow"? AND! They wanted to stop Mexican immigration. Mexican's smoke pot, make pot illegal, Mexican's stay out of the US or get arrested. This country is so brilliant. That was sarcasm by the way.

Right wing nears victory in Italy Berlusconi holds lead in early returns

Many Italians waited in line for over two hours to vote. Half of my family is Italian, so I want to make a joke about butterfly pasta ballots... but I won't do that. Ok Uncle Vin?

EU establishes ties with North Korea Diplomatic breakthrough for nation

The cold war wasn't won through passive aggression or ensured mutual destruction, it was won through cold hard economics. The same way we're going to bring North Korea under control. M*A*S*H becomes C*A*S*H.

Battle of the banks over Wachovia SunTrust makes unsolicited rival bid

Money money every where. The last bid for this bank was $12.5 billion, this new company is willing to shell out $14.7 billion for it. Right now I have a dollar in my wallet.

Actors wifes murder causes boom Scoop: Curious flock to restaurant

This upturn in business for the restaurant where Robert Blake's wife was shot outside of - mirrors the upturn in business for the Brentwood restaurant Mezzaluna, which Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman spent time shortly before they were murdered. Restaurant rubber necking. How many think Robert Blake shot or hired someone to shoot his own wife - I'd especially like to hear from those who have no idea of the facts at all.

 WashPost: Democrats thinking 04

Ahh yes, the publicity for the next presidential election begins. Gore in 2004? Somehow I doubt it.

Sloan: Why mortgage rates wont fall

See above: Battle of the banks over Wachovia.

Meth labs sprout in forests, parks

If a crystal meth addict runs out of dope in the woods and no one is around to hear it, do his psychotic episodes make a sound?

 Weaver: Personal TVs fuzzy picture

I REALLY want a Tivo. I won't GET a Tivo, BUT I WANT ONE. Apparently the rest of the country feels the same as I do.

 Newsweek: AOL-Viacom rumble

AOHELL loses Buffy to UPN. When AOHELL is finally broken up just for being evil (like Micro$oft) I hope the judge let's slip that he hated them ever since he was forced to even switch his channel to UPN once a week - and that's the real reason he decided to break them up - plus they're EEEVIL.

 Mummy sequel rules box office

I though you could only have 1 mother. Or is this a new fangled lesbian thing I'm missing. God I'm so behind the times some times...

johnpowers Hosts the Urbana Poetry Slam Finals

After a 3 and 1/2 hour drive, after a show that lasted for the MC a total of 4 hours, after a slam that lasted 2 1/2 hours, there were 5 of 8 people left standing at the Manhattan Urbana Poetry Slam. Beau Sia, Evert Eden, Onome, Celena Glen, and alternate Cristin Okeef Aptowicz are the members of the 2001 Urbana National Poetry Slam Team. Score creep was a factor - but it always is. The infamous clean slate round was a factor - just like last year. Noel Jones, Dan and Spyro were eliminated before or in the third round. Special thanks to Jen Owens for score keeping and Ray Davey for picking non partial judges.

 johnpowers is one tired boy.

Enough said.
