 Headlines

Monday is Headline day - The headlines are real, the story and the take are mine.

China to host the 2008 Olympics

OK, now look for China to immediately halt human rights abuses - just like Adolph Hitler did in 1936 when Nazi Germany was selected to host the Olympic games. Sure. Uh huh. Yeah...

Here's an idea, since China has been given the message by the Olympic Committee that its human rights abuses have been approved by the international corporate community (IOC), why don't we demand as a concrete gesture of China's willingness to be a civilized participant in international affairs, Tibet be given its freedom? Until that happens as an indication of China's willingness to practice human rights, we should:

1. Not participate in the 2008 Olympic games in any way.

2, Not support sending our athletes to the 2008 Olympic games.

3. Not support anyone who participates in or visits the 2008 Olympic games.

4. Not watch the 2008 Olympic games on TV.

5. Boycott every sponsor of the 2008 Olympic Games - who are in fact greatly responsible for China getting the games in the first place. Coca-Cola for example. Proctor and Gamble? Yep. Them too.

Russia-China pact
Jiang, Putin committed to preserving nuclear deal

Yes, China and Russia will be holding the US to the ABM treaty if we decide to let Bush go forward with a missile-defense system. How will they hold the US to the treaty? They will say that the treaty is null and void if the US breaks it and they will embark upon another arms race reminiscent of the cold war. Repeat after me "Duck, Tuck, and Cover."

Rogge elected IOC president
Belgian surgeon replaces scandal tarnished Samaranch

By tradition, IOC members are volunteers. They receive no salary but get travel, hotel and per diem expenses when attending Olympic meetings. Olympic meetings all over the world in usually luxurious locations. The hotel and per diem expenses? There certainly aren't staying in no-tell-motels.

Search intensifies
Police scour remote areas of D.C. for Chandra Levy

I'll be shocked if they ever find her. Now lets say the congressman did kill her. If he ever believed there was a chance her body could be found, would he have ever taken that lie detector test?

Gas prices plunge
U.S. average drops almost 13 cents in past 3 weeks

GEE! Remember the old excuses - that demand was causing the price increases last summer? Well it's summer again and demand is at it's yearly peak and where are the gas prices going? Down. Could it be that the oil companies are finally getting the clue that they won't be allowed to price gouge forever? Studies show that OPEC was not causing last years price hikes, it was 'problems' in domestic distribution.

Climate talks aim to salvage Kyoto
U.S. faces pressure at Bonn meeting

"Global warming schmobal warming."

"Uhm, Mister President, schmobal isn't a word..."

"That's it! No more big business kickbacks for you!"

USA Networks nears Expedia deal
WSJ: Microsoft opts to sell its share

Expedia.com. I don't think I've ever been to the Expedia.com web site... ever. Expedia.com.. Expedia.com's commercials are just too annoying. That's Expedia.com.

Smoke toxin may cause infertility
 Report links cigarettes, ovarian failure

And I still smoke. Looks like no Man-Babies for me.

The worried lives of NASCAR wives
 Newsweek: Nancy Andrettis prayers

Let's see. Your husband gets in a car every weekend along side 50 other husbands. Those cars travel at 200 miles per hour for hours along the same stretch of pavement... their cars keep going left then strait left then strait left then strait left then strait to do it all over again until they hit 500 miles or the wall?!?!

and the wives are just 'worried?'

"C'mere Ma. I got something to show ya!"

"oh no, what are you doing with your pants?"

"oh you remember, it's only been 20 years"

"oh no, get away from me"

"it's just like riding a bicycle Ma. In this case, a unicycle..."

"aaaah! oooh. ahhhh. yipe!"

The video gambling machines kept breaking on take off and landing - erasing the passengers winnings and losings.
