Quotes

"Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

C-Span is the only place in telivision where you can find oposing coverage of the Iraq war. I spent a great deal of my Saturday watching the Veterans Against the War teach in. I set the link to start playing at a pretty interesting point - where eventually you'll come across what I quoted above.

Today I came across a great web site called The Fourth Freedom. Pretty interesting reading.

Also from the video...
Whenver Howard Zinn talks about the independent journlist I.F. Stone he would always start off by telling the story of how when ever Stone started a class on Journalism he would begin the class by saying to the students: "To be a journalist you have to remember two words. Governments lie."
