poetry

Too Soon All of the old dogs I've known are dead and buried. Some cats went out and never came back before we learned to keep them in. Two Grandparents hearts stopped keeping time. Cancer hollowed out the insides of the others. Aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, sister. Alzheimer's, auto wrecks, husband with a gun... still, the only thing that scares me about death is leaving my son too soon, too early gone to teach him how to dig a hole, smoth over the dirt, plant the grass over his dog with love.
